Ok my chin has now found out what to do to show her dissapointment, she will pick up her food dish, dump it, push it all out of the cage the start trowing it around and banging it on her glass hay dish to make lots of noise, she does this every time i dont take her out for a night, is there anyway i can keep the food dish in the little ring thing(I have one of those crock things that fits in the metal ring) So how can i try to stop this, i know i should take her out every night but sometimes i just dont get the chance.

Don't know if this will work or not, but you can try to get a dish that does connect to the cage somehow, or was wondering what type of dishes do you have now. Do you have those heavy ceramic ones, if not you can try those, can't say it will solve the problem but they are heavy and it might. Just get a bigger one, not one of the small ones because the small ones are light.

good luck.

You can bend the frame of the dish so it is harder to get in and out, that is what I do for my bratty chins! Also, that ceramic parrot dish with a top on it and a bold to the side of the cage works well, there is no way to get that tipped over. I also put a hammock or shelf above the dish so they cannot get to it as easily sometimes...if that makes sense.

It just fits inside the ring and there are no holes in the dishs to do that

They have those ceramic hooded dishes for birds. I've had customers highly recommend those with the brattier chins that like to dump or dig pellets.

I don't use the lightweight metal dishes any more for this exact reason. Once a chin learns he can pick up a dish, he will pick it up and throw it around. Has anyone else ever seen them pick it up with their front legs and dump the pellets out towards them? It's the strangest thing AND they mean to do it.

I wonder if there is a way to more firmly affix the bowl to the little loop. Like chantel said, you could bend the ring a little and then sort of squeeze fit the bowl into the ring. I'd probably poke some holes in the rim of the dish and wire it or otherwise clip it to the ring. The trick is to overcome the physical strength of the chinchilla...make it physically impossible for them to pick up and throw things that ought not be thrown. :)

Sorry to laugh, :) , but, it sounds like she's in Prison!!hehe Sometimes are little sweeties are like spoiled toddlers--pretty soon she'll be thumping her feet if you don't fix this problem!!ha ha. Good luck...you'll get it figured out.

Wow now she flips it every night, do yall have and temporary ideas until i get a better bowl?i cant figure out how to poke holes in it though

I use a coffee cup and zip tie the handle to the cage wire in the corner, they can't even reach the zip-tie to chew it. You can buy a small pack of them in the auto center in Wal-mart.

Yeah, the only reason i was wondering if that would work is because if the residue from the welding could be harmful but i doubt it.

I need to teach my husband to weld..that would be a very nifty thing to know how to do! I can only imagine the cages I could make...ha! I am sure he would LOVE that idea.

is there anyway to move the food dish to the corner so it's more difficult to tip over? My girls are prone to tipping over their dish and pooing in it so I highly recommended the hooded dish when you get time to get one. You can find the heavy ceramic ones at any pet store and I think I've even seen them at grocery stores in the pet section. The only suggestion I have about the welding is to make you sure you clean it super good after it's done, when I got my cage there was still welding residue that was almost greasy and i just took a damp cloth and rubbed it off.
