I got my chinchillas on Saturday and I noticed that they really don't like certain Timothy hay pieces. I put some hay in their cage and they keep on going through it till they find pieces that are not hard twigs. Is there any brand of Timothy hay that doesn't have so much hard twigs in it or can someone recommend a better Timothy hay brand??

chins are picky with hay. Simple as that. They will go through and grab what they want and discard the rest. You will end up wasting a good bit.

My females are pretty defiant with hay they decide not to eat. One day they discarded a bit to much for my liking so i took it and put it all back in there hay dish. - They took at all back out, threw it on the ground, and then peed all over it.

They got there point across...

As Godofgods said it's pretty normal for the chin to be picky on which piece they want to eat, I think they have to find the perfect piece. Mine will sometimes pull all the hay out to find one piece, but luckily they will go back and eat most of it later. You can try different brands though, the best brand is what your chin will eat, unfortunately, but some of the better brands are American Pet Diner, Oxbow, Kleenmama's, and Standlee. However some people's chins love cheaper brands like kaytee, and Zupreem. You just need to find what your chin likes the most, and just look at the bag of hay when you buy it to see what it looks like since even within the same brand it can change from bag to bag and season to season.

Yes they are very picky, currently they are eating this Kaytee hay brand, the breeder I got them from suggested I give them Kaytee Orchard Grass and continue giving them the Kaytee hay. Thinking about either doing that or get Oxbow.
