So I got two chinchillas about three weeks ago now, and the female just had babies a week ago. I separated the male and female so she doesn't get pregnant again, but now the male is sitting in the corner of his cage a lot of the time. He looks as if hes trying to get to the female. I've also noticed that he has started to throw most of his food out of the food dish and onto the floor of his cage--something he didn't do when I first brought him home (I also asked his previous owner about this and she said he never threw his food out before). He seems to be eating it though. Should I be concerned about this behavior? Any insight/thoughts would be extremely helpful!

he probably is trying to get to her.

When i separated my male from his girl, he went crazy. He already had a heart murmur and when i let the girls out to play and he could see her, he would get so worked up trying to get to her that he was having seizures. :(

Now i have to make sure they can never lay eyes on each other again. There cages are still near each other but i have a very large sheet of fleece attached to the girls cage to make sure the boys can not see them. I also have to make sure the cage is covered if i let the girls out as well.
