All over the news these past couple of days is the story of the man who shot and killed his fiancee the night before their wedding. Their are deeming it a tragic accident. Okay first of all why do you wake up and just shoot before saying, who's there?! She could have answered him and he would have known it was his fiancee. Second of all he never turned a single light on, had had done so he would have realized she was not in bed with him. And lastly, and I dont really want to start any debate, but lastly if a gun hadn't been in the house his fiancee would still be alive.
Tragic accident? I think not. Stupid, careless accident? I think YES!

My first thought was - accident my butt - for all the reasons you stated. How could you think there was an intruder in the house and not automatically reach over to find out if your other half was in bed. Most guys would say "Shhh, stay here honey" or something to that affect. You don't just get out of bed, walk down the hall, and blow someone away. Does the woman never go to the bathroom in the middle of the night? How come all those times he didn't shoot her?

I just don't believe it was an accident.

Wow how horrible!! I agree with you guys, seems too odd to be considered an accident like that!

Definitely not a "tragic accident". And if it was, this is why you don't sleep with a loaded gun. You keep ammo somewhere else so you have to actually wake up and get it and load it. Also, what about a "warning shot"?. That is just beyond suspicious.

I doubt it was an accident.

Can't you at least yell like 'who's there' or something?

You don't just pull the trigger every time you hear something in the house.

Hmmm... mine gasped and hid under the comforter when he heard a strange noise in the middle of the night.

I question the validity of his statements because simple precautions were not taken to prevent this from happening.

I am all for firearms in peoples homes as long as they are properly trained. There are too many illegal firearms out there, and there are too many breakins/robbings/rapes etc... for my taste.

If you are the type of person to give a warning shot a firearm is not for you. Firearms are for 1 purpose and that is to kill, if you can't use it properly, don't have it. That is like saying police should give a warning shot - absolutely not. The drawing of the firearm is your warning. After that it's your stupidity if you get shot. The cop/person wants to go home at night. People are capable of doing a lot once shot, so you gotta go for it. I keep firearms in my house, and I wouldn't think twice about shooting an intruder. They have no right to be in my house, and my husband works nights.

I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

But God forbid your husband comes home early and you shoot him! I would think there would be a warning call or something, you have to know what you are shooting at before you pull that trigger. A person KNOWS when their spouse is not in the bed, you just feel an absence, at least I do. It is the first thing I notice when I wake up, my husband snoring! I don't think you should shoot a warning shot, but you must know you are shooting at an intruder not your wife.

I know in PA, if an intruder breaks into your home, you have to give a warning shot. However, even many cops around here say that you should shoot first, then fire the "warning shot".

Wow, thats so terrible.
I think if I thought there was an intruder in my home the first thing I would do would to reach over to make sure my significant other was laying next to me.

My first statement was that simple precautions were not taken. You should always know what you are shooting at. Like hunting accidents are usually stupiditiy. A horse or a person looks nothing like a deer - if the person taking the shot actually was paying attention then those would not get shot.

I think there has to be a lot missing from the story, however there are other just as tragic stories regarding cops accidentally shooting their kids or their spouses when they thought an intruder was breaking into their homes. Again, precautions were not taken.

What bothers me is his reaction after and the 911 call. "I shot an intruder. The intruder was my wife" sounds like he was saying the punch line to a bad joke rather than reporting that his future wife just died. His demeanor was not of one who just accidentally killed his wife. He sounded rehearsed and unremorseful.

If it truly were an accident he wouldve said something like "I shot my wife accidentally." Sounds like he was defending himself before he told what he did. Does anyone know if he is being charhed with anything? I'm interested in watching how this thing will play out.

If it were an accident, he would've been "omg, I just shot my wife!" You know, the frantic calls you hear on TV all the time?

He didn't shoot his wife, so odd he would call her that. They were supposed to get married the following day. I hope someone in law enforcement is handling this the right way.

Some people consider their significant other their husband and wife even though it is not legal yet. My parents(mom and stepdad) were together for 10 years before getting married. Once they were engaged after their first year of being together they called each other husband and wife. I immediately called him dad. I have seen this many other times so its not uncommon for him to say "wife" rather than fiance. Even now woman are called "wifey" when they are just the girlfriend. Or the man "baby daddy" when there is no baby in the picture.

They were both also 64 years old so they probably already considered each other husband and wife. Especially if they were living with each other already.
