I don't know...I couldn't have just taken a picture and walked away...or shaken the dude, seen the blood and walked away. That poor man risked his life for a stranger and got paid back for it by being left to die. Absolutely horrible. :(

But did anyone witness him saving the girl? The way it comes off in the article, everyone that passed him came by after he had been stabbed. I'm not saying I don't find cases like this appalling, I'm just saying Fox wouldn't have cared about this man had he not just saved the girl.

Neither would any other news source. They way the article reads, the camera caught him saving the girl.

That's what's so sad, nobody cared about this man at all--it didn't matter that he had helped save someone, people walked past him clearly knowing there was something wrong with him, yet did NOTHING to help. We are a selfish country, many time unkind and uncaring, and it pisses me off.

This hearkens back to the Genovese case where a woman was murdered and her neighbors did nothing. Notice where it happened. You cannot really declare the whole country selfish based upon the actions of one city.

The problem is, it doesn't just happen in NYC. It happens in all large cities. There's an unwritten "don't get involved" law that people strictly adhere to. Just because it doesn't make Fox news, doesn't mean it isn't in the papers of other cities. I've seen several stories, not of good Samaritans, but of people just being ignored when they were in desperate need of help.

Laurie is right. We have become a cold, self-centered society. If it doesn't involve their own little world, many people tend to walk on by with blinders on.

Since they have video footage, I say they hunt down the bastards that walked past this guy and left them to die. Can they not be charged with SOMETHING?

I hate people more and more each day. How can you walk by another human being, see them hurt and not do anything? Yes, there is the "stay out of it" thing--but yanno know what? Walk past, and when you are away pick up your cell phone and dial. By that point, you are out of hearing/seeing distance and still helping someone.

Oh my, this is absolutely appalling. I think the problem is that people just "assume" somebody else will help this man and continue on with their own selfish lives. Really though, nobody cares enough. And how could you take a picture on your camera?! and even touch the man and realize he's bleeding but still not call 911?! that is ridiculous and disgusting.

I know people are afraid to get involved for different reasonlike getting injured or if the person had aids or whatever.......but at the minimum someone could have called 911 & waited until they arrived.

Here's ANOTHER reason that people probably won't get involved.

There was an incident here in Denver several days ago, where 2 employees of the Sprint store were on their 15 minute break out in the mall and saw one of the security guards yelling for help. These 2 young men chased down, caught and restrained the shoplifter.

You would think that they would be heroes, right??? Not so fast -- when they got back to their jobs they were FIRED!!! Because Sprint's policy does not allow any employee to confront or engage and try to apprehend a shoplifter.

As the young men said, they were on their own time, and NOT in the Sprint store. They were responding to a cry for help from a fellow human. The news report stated that the HR department of Sprint refused to comment because of privacy laws.

I don't think that we've heard the end of the story -- wouldn't YOU want an employee like these 2 guys??? I hope they get hired immediately!!!

THANK GOD for Good Samaritans!!!

There are some jurisdictions that enforce a required Good Samaritan law, where you have to help someone if within your power, while most do not. :hmm:

Not to start a debate or say that I dont believe you but I would like to see these laws. The government cant FORCE someone to be a Good Samaritan. That would defeat the purpose of the "Good" Samaritan. Not that I know every law in every state but I dont know of a single law where a person is required by law to report or aid an injured person. The only thing a person is REQUIRED by law to report is Treason. Nothing more nothing less. And I think the only people required to aid in a medical situation are people in the medical field. And thats only if someone can PROVE you were there, in a sober state to aid the person.

On the actual story. I think its disgusting how people dont have enough respect or empathy for another human being to help. I cannot imagine what was going though the mans head as he was dying. Watching people take pictures of him dying like he is some tourist attraction or people stopping and looking and touching him and then leaving. This human being saw the ugly in the world right before he died and it is very sad.

My question is, why wouldnt the woman who was originally the target of the attack report what happened to her. At least that would get some investigation going to find the injured/dying man.

I was also wondering what happened to the woman he saved? Did she abandon him as well? I feel like we are missing half the story but honestly it sickens me too much to do more research. It is too sad. I do not watch the news and try to remain blissfully ignorant about the horrors in the world, it's all bad news these days...
