just wondering say my chins were out at playtime and say kool-aid or something were to spill on them what would you do see as how they are not supposed to get wet in the first place, how to clean?:hmm:

I would give the chin a water bath and then put the hair dryer on the lowest and coolest setting and sit and dry them until they were completely dry.

Chins CAN get wet..they aren't going to melt if they do. You just have to make sure they are completely dry afterwards.

Good advice given by Stacie and Michelle!

The most important thing is to make sure your chin is completely dry. Make sure to sorta sift through the fur to ensure that it's dry. Then afterwards, worry about the kool-aid. Try using unscented baby wipes or a damp towel to get some of the Kool-aid out. Then, hopefully dust baths will take care of it over time.

I agree, the biggest thing is to make sure they're dry - if there's residual moisture in the fur, they're much more susceptible to skin fungus, like ringworm.

thanks everyone for your helpful advice. hopefully nothing like that will ever happen(knock on wood) but if it would i now know what to do so...Thanks again everyone!

my chin had gotten half her body wet soon after I first got her, and she never had any complications. That was quite a relief. But like everyone has said, just make sure your chin is thoroughly dried afterward and you should be ok.

I let my two chins run about in the bathroom when I am taking a bath. Well just a few days ago my one boy Dash decided to jump in the water with me. Chins apparently cant swim because he sank, but thankfully I managed to keep his head above the water. I was nervous because he started sneezing and pawing at his nose. I thought he took on some water but he seemed to be fine. I dried him off really good, but he didn't like it; then followed with a dust bath that he loved. He still does not like to be held anymore. But time will help that I have to re assure our bond again. Even though he doesnt realize that I was trying to help him. He is well though, happy playful and still loves his dust bath!

Not only is letting them run around while you take a bath a bad idea because of this, but also because they could overheat MUCH easier due to the steam created by the hot water and the higher temp of the bathroom.

A wet chin be looking something like this:

If something like say kool aid would get on them, it would be important to get them VERY clean. Why you wonder, sticky maybe? Not exactly. Chins love sweet just like we do, sweet fur would taste MUCH better than non sweetened fur. They chew the sweet off, and fur chewing can become habititual.

Nova there was bathed as he had a yellow urine stripe down his back. He had a branch in his cage he loved to sit on... and obviously pee on, and was low enough that he would run under it. Yellow striped chins are not color of their own. Washed with a little bit of high dilute professional grooming shampoo, cover show cage with towel, use natural air drier... end result:

Super cute chin. Koolaid or other dyed drink probably would color the fur to an extent, especially with a white chin.... hmmm.. reminds me of the colored bunny project..

Sorry getting off track. Anyway, you want to be sure they get really dry to help prevent things like chilling and warm moist fur is an ideal breeding ground for fungus.

( Nova who is a color class champion and his two girls are both for sale btw! )
