I am looking to upgrade my chin's cage here in the next few weeks and I was looking at this cage at Petsmart.com and was wondering if anyone on here had one. I like the fact that it has more than room then my current cage but I can not tell if the shelves in it are plastic or not. If they are, I would remove them but if they are metal I would just leave them and get some fleece and cover them, but rearrange them so I can put in Herby's ledges, tubes, etc.

Can anyone give me some feedback on this? It would be taken with much appreciation!

Just from reading the reviews on the cage it looks like the bars, even though steel, are easily bent. You may want to go through the reviews and read some more before you make your decision.

Thanks! I read through them and since that is one reason of many I am upgrading, I think I will do some more research on the FN and QC cages and go from there.

I have one of these, and I like it :) Is it as nice and sturdy as a Ferret Nation? No, but it is collapsable, so it's easy to transport if need be. The pan at the bottom is a bit shallow, though I find that as long as I don't put in too much Carefresh it doesn't get kicked out much. The shelves and ramps are all solid. It can be noisy when they jump on them, but if the shelves are on right, it isn't an issue.

Overall, if you're looking for a less-expensive alternative, I'd say go for it! For the price, I don't think you'll find a cage as big as this one. :)

The price is almost the same as a FN if you get the FN in the store and do a price match.

That may be true, but there are a few other points to consider: one, the Ferret Nation is a bit smaller (at least, that's my impression and correct me if I'm wrong there). Two, for the Prevue cage you won't have to order new litter pans from Bass Equipment or wherever. Thirdly, the whole being able to collapse it for transport. I've moved twice since I've had mine, and it's nice to know you can get it at least partially folded up.

In the short term, the Prevue cage is cheaper. Even if the cages themselves can be purchased at the same price (though I don't know where you'd price match to - Petsmart is the only pet store I know of that has them for under $200) you won't have to buy new shelves, pans, and the like right away. Believe me, I weighed a lot of pros and cons on this one since I was looking at getting an FN myself. I'd still love to get an FN for my ratties someday, though!

Edit: about the bars being bent thing... Could a person bend them? Yes, with some effort. Could a chin? No. The person on that Petco review who said their ferret bent the bars must have their ferret on steroids or something lol.
