Governor Cuts 100-percent of Domestic Violence Funds

In an unprecedented move, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has cut 100-percent of domestic violence funding, leaving women's shelters wondering how they're going to deal with the loss.

Local shelter directors thought they'd see about a 20 to 30 percent cut, but never 100-percent. With this cut, there are fears that many abused women seeking help will have to be turned away.

That is just insane. The $73,000,000+ spent on both sides of Prop. 8 could have been put to use for something like this - and all the while CA's schools are in the sh*tter.

Sorry, CA :(

Battered and abused women have a hard enough time seeking help. They are ashamed and want to protect the 'man they love' or they have fear of the consequences if running away and then having to return to their abuser. This action is totally irresponsible to the women in California. Whoever advised Arnold that this would be a good idea is a NUT. Women will die at the hands of their abusers because of this, I'm sure.

I realize that California is darn near in bankruptcy, but couldn't something ELSE have been cut? How about Welfare and housing for illegals? Who in their right mind decided this was a good thing to do?

When the eyes of the country turn to California and vilify Arnold, when the protests start, when people take action against this, I bet he changes his mind real quick.

Unfortunately this is the way of the world, and so, SO sad. These types of cuts are being seen everywhere, not just California. Women's services along with mental health services always get the hardest blows. When will we stop paying huge salaries to movie stars, sports figures, singers/musicians and start taking care of the people who need us most? And YES we do pay for all those salaries, if we didn't encourgage the entertaintment industry as we do it would never be that much out of control. Arnold makes enough money/made enough money to fund the shelters in California on his own I'm sure.
What a very sad day.

It's not only women that are affected by this decision. It's also the children from these abusive homes.

And people wonder why I would EVER want to leave California! First the whole Prop 8 thing and now this...everytime I turn around they're screwing up something new!

I can see 10% but not 100%. One of the other problems CA has is that people get paid to take care of their elderly parents or handicapped family members. These people (union workers) were protesting because they will get a cut in pay from $12.00 to $8.00 or $10.00 per hour. They get paid 40 hrs a week. What happened to the olden days when you did it for free?

CA needs to cut the fat at the top. Help our people and not the illegals and anchor babies and prisoners. Even the prisoners have more rights then anyone else, a/c, tv, gym, dental, medical. They need to send these people to Tent City if AZ.
