Today I learned Great Britain knighted Ted Kennedy. Are you flipping kidding me? You're going to knight a man who crawled out of a car sinking in water LEAVING BEHIND A YOUNG WOMAN TO DIE?!

Why oh why does everyone just seem to forget this about Ted Kennedy? Why does everyone seem to turn their head at the antics of the Kennedy Clan? More than one of them has gotten away with murder yet here we are knighting Ted Kennedy and making martyrs of both John and Robert--can you say Marilyn Monroe anyone??

The man is a cad a scoundrel and certainly--CERTAINLY does not warrant something as honor worthy and upstanding as knighthood for flipping sake!

I don't get it either. I think he is a scumbag. They turn a blind eye to him killing a woman and a blind eye to his nephew who rapes women. I think they are disgusting.

Of all the people worthy of Knighthood, it isn't that alcoholic bag of flesh. Blech.

It's because he's a beloved Kennedy. Can do no wrong. We could have wind power on the Cape, but it interfers with their line of site when they're on their sailboats..

That witch who put a curse on the family knew what she was doing!! ;)

I wondered at this too, but then again, think of all the people who were knighted many years ago when it was less honorary, more "go kill things for the Crown" who did something just as bad, if not worse. I think honorary knighthood, at this point in history, is kind of a joke.

I think it's ridiculous but after the treatment of Princess Di by the royal family, nothing they do would surprise me.

I agree that Ted doesn't deserve anything nice that happens - deserves just the opposite!
Many of you are too young to know the attitude of the whole country while Jack was in there! Especially after the Bay of Pigs/Naval Blockade episode, when schools sent home students, as neuclear war was so imminent! It was said fingers were poised to "push the button!" Ask your parents or grandparents! Very scary!
And we'll really never know the truth about Marylin!
Personally, my goal is to live long enough to hear what is in the "Warren Report!" It's supposed to be opened in 2020 something!

I cant believe he's higher up on the honor list than Ringo Starr is.

I don't know why they knight officials in the U.S. anyway. We have this whole revolutionary war and vow not to have the same social hierarchy as the country we break away from...and then Ted gets knighted.

Honestly, besides essentially killing his pregnant girlfriend, has he done anything spectacular? That's an honest question, because I honestly can't think of anything.

The Kennedy's are just something else. He brings two of his dogs to work with him, I saw him bringing them into his office after we had to evacuate the capital. (Just wanted to throw a lighthearted antidote in there).

Now I wouldn't go as far as saying that he deserves the opposite of anything nice. While I don't think that he should have been knighted, and I don't think that the Kennedy's are "that great", I do think that the family has been through a lot. It seems like every year or two another one of them dies in a freak accident, and that isn't very nice for anyone's family to go through. Not to mention that he has brain cancer, a disease which I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

That actually endears him to me somewhat, assuming they're not tearing up the carpet or something. It's not nice enough to make me forget the disgust I felt when my dad explained Chappaquiddick for me, but I guess even the slimiest of people want someone/something around that loves them in spite of their flaws. :hug2:

Oh I'll call him Sir all right. I'll say excuse me SIR how is that you left a woman to die but suffered absolutely no recrimmination from it. Or how about this, oh excuse me SIR I didn't mean to shove my fist so far into your soft yellow belly!!!!

WHOA! Here is a side of Laurie I've never seen before.

:hilarious:

No, you just don't call them Sir in this country. If the Queen of England addressed him or if he went over for tea he'd be "Sir Kennedy"...kind of like that actress who became a princess.

It's just stupid, he hasn't even done anything for England, and the Beatles have given their country a lot more money because of crazy tourists stalking them and their beginnings than any Kennedy would.

I'm thinking this also. I just can't wish any ill will on someone dying of cancer. Let's face it..we will be seeing his obituary soon. It is probably the sympathy for him that got him knighted. I think the whole thing is silly but ....hey, don't we have a shrugging shoulder smiley any more?

Somewhat related to this topic...
I saw the most amusing bumper sticker on an SUV today.

"I'd rather hunt with Dick Cheney,
than ride with Ted Kennedy"

Oh snap! :p I got a good chuckle out of that one.

LOL @ Therese! Somebody had a wicked sense of humor there!

I never realised the Kennedy Clan were as unpopular as they are!
I think he probably got the Honorary Knighthood because he is terminally ill, rather than meriting it in any way.

I really don't think it's a unpopular thing, it's just that Teds indescretions were front page news for so long, along with anything the family did wrong - the bad seems to always outweight the good, even if it was avoiding nuclear war, and being assisinated for future plans!
Sorry if I'm a little biased, but I lived it!
