kinda of a weird question but im looking for my new tattoo. I want something that has to do with my gizmo but I dont want to get a picture of him tattooed on me. So i was thinking maybe chinese calligraphy tattoo. I'm having a really hard time finding "gizmo". Does anyone know where I can find it?

That seems like a word that's going to be really hard (if not impossible) to find written as Chinese calligraphy. "Gizmo" is a pretty recently coined word (around 1940-ish).

Another idea, which I've seen other people on here do, is to get a tattoo of your chin's pawprint. Try searching the forums; I know there are at least a couple other tattoo threads on here and they might give you some good ideas.

You could use any chinese symbol that you like and tell people it says "Gizmo" lol :)

I have two on my lower back, one is the symbol for happiness and good luck and the other is the dragon symbol from the chinese zodiac. At least that's what I was told so that's what I'm sticking with, lol.

good idea stacey lol.
I looked for a paw print of a chinchilla- hard to find too!

I personally wouldn't get anything in another language tattoo'd on me unless I was 100% certain of what it said. There was a story about someone who thought they got one thing tattoo'd on them, but it really meant something else. I forget the full story.

I'd go with the paw prints oor simply get some nice actual calligraphy tattoo'd.

I second the not getting another language in less you are 100000% I would even go as far as going to the local college or even high school and having a teacher/prof varify that it is correct. A lot of people are getting different languages and its not what they thought... also normally there are two means to things.

found one a minute ago... how accurate do you think this website is??

Chinese is a difficult language to translate names and other things into. THere is not always a direct corralation.

For example, the three character there were simply chosen for the sound they make. Ji si mo. (Gee-Suh-Muo ...kinda). It is a close approximation of what the english word Gizmo would sound like in chinese. The characters chosen have no special meaning associated with gizmo the english word.

For example. Ji means luck. Mo the last character is a surname. They are simply common characters used when transliterating foreign words into chinese.

As for a translation of the word Gizmo. The closest I can think of is 小玩意 (xiao wan yi). It is like a small gadget. But don't take my word for it. I was a chinese major in college, but am by no means fluent.

One word of caution. Before you get a chinese tattoo check the meaning with a native speaker. I have seen some really bad tattoos...lol.

i would try and stay away from names and go with a pawprint or other significant object, that way you can give tribute to gizmo and any other future chins!!

I thought about getting a chin tattoo, but I thought that since my chins are grey, that wouldn't look too cool in a tat. I wanted something with a little more color. Plus, you'd have to have someone really good with shading and for it not to look like a blob, it'd have to be a pretty good size. So I just kind of let the idea go.

Maybe they could do chinchilla in Chinese lettering? Or something that represents love for a small animal?

For my pawprint, I took a photo of Kenai's paw and based the tattoo off of that - that way it's his pawprint... thread here

I have seen a lot of really done chinchilla tattoos of chinchillas themselves. At York last year Barb Shoots was running around to all of us with them trying to get us grouped up for a photo and they were all sorts of different styles, some in color, other black and white. Mine is a chinchilla but it isn't any specific one, so that it is in honor and memory of all of them.

I'm not a fan of the way chinchilla pawprint tattoos look, but that's just my own opinion. There are a couple I have seen that I liked but I think they need to be incorporated into a bigger design, rather than stand alone. And no Chinese symbols for me - although i do have friends who could make sure they were right!

Any idea where I can find a good accurate picture of a paw print?? I'm thinking it might be easier to just get his name tattooed on me lol
