Hey all,

I´m planning on going to town on the weekend to purchase some fleece to make some liners for the new chin cage we are building (It´s going to be a monster, around 2.5x2x1meters) and I am hopeless with a sewing machine, so this is going to be tricky! Does anybody have any tips when it comes to making their own fleece items? I may be biting off more than I can chew here but the cage will have pretty unique dimensions and a middle level for the chins to play in so I want to have some fleece items in the middle of the cage. I dont think I´m competent enough to make a tunnel yet, lol

The DIY sections are helpful, but here are a few things to keep in mind. When I started off making my own fleece stuff, I didn't know that fleece had a more stretchy side, and one side that's not. By "side," I mean one direction. Making tube covers and cuddle ledge covers are way easier in my opinion than full sized liners. When you're making the covers, use the stretchy direction in accordance of how you're going to put the cover on the PVC, that way there's a bit of give when you pull it over.

As for liners, the stretchy direction can give you problems. Just make sure to pin everything well and watch out for bunching. Bunching will make life miserable and it will be difficult for everything to be even once you're sewing.

As for your sewing machine, just take it easy and read the manual. There are also some helpful YouTube videos to help get you started. There are a lot of people who sew on the forum, and I'm sure they can give you more tips if needed. Good luck!

what i did to make things easy and simple for cage bottom liners was just to take a large piece of fleece the same width as the cage and twice as long, fold it in half so it was two layers, and spread it out over the cage bottom.

as for sewn items like fleece houses, tube covers, etc...... i leave that up to people like AnnieO, lol. her stuff is great! Allie over at Camphor makes great corner hammocks too - Guss loves his corner hammie from her.

Wow, I would not have guessed that! I´ll watch out for the stretchy side, also, thanks for the tip.

I´m hoping to at least get a few liners done over the next few weeks as the cage gets built, nice little christmas project.

I might go to the pros for some of the hamocks and stuff like that, they have a nice cube to sleep in but they have managed to tear up the sides of it, which is frustrating.

I have a cuddle buddy from AnnieO, love it! It got here super fast too and postage was reasonable, so will definantly be getting more things from her down the track.
