My beige chin (3 y/o) Harley is very sweet and not aggressive. But at random times late at night or early hours of the morning he will start stomping around his cage! He has a 3 level cage thats about 3.5' high and he will jump as hard and as fast as he can from level to level to make as much noise as possible. I let him out to play every evening at the same time and I feed him twice a day at the same time so I don't know what the problem is.

Sometimes if i get up and turn the TV on or hold him for a minute he stops but I don't want him to learn that making noise gets attention.

Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks!

Yes, I have that problem all the time. I keep the rescue chins in my front room so that I can watch them that much more closely. They learn in a day or two that stomping and banging gets them attention. The only thing I can do is try to ignore it as much as possible. Once they learn that they can summon sleeping humans at 3 or 4 am with noises, they will keep doing it.

I keep a radio on for the chins in the chin rooms and that cuts down on the nervous bouncing.

The problem is that he's a chinchilla...this is what they do. They are quick learners and they LOVE LOVE LOVE to have people run to see them. :) Your little dude is old enough that he shouldn't be so hyper, he's doing it on purpose.

He might want more food. Most give unlimited access to hay and pellets, particularly through the night. Other than that, he is just having fun......he has a wheel, right?

Sounds like a normal chin to me! They bounce and play it is just what they do. I would get him a wheel, then you will only hear the wheel noise. You can give more toys to chew as well to keep him busy.

Sounds like a normal chin to me I have some that are 8+ years old and they have random spurts of energy, of course being at night since they are nocturnal. After getting up to 20+ chins, I switched over to melamine/pine cages. The rawkus is a lot quieter. More like soft thumps (except when they hit the door - but it's still quieter then a wire cage).

With Marble's cage it sounds like we've got a pet elephant instead of a chinchilla. They are way too noisy for their size and furriness. You'd think that big fur coat would muffle some of the noise but it doesn't.

Mine like to wall surf on their cage, and it sounds like someone smacking metal together. They plop their 1.5 pound bodies onto the ground and it makes a loud thud, they talk to me, and eachother all night, and better yet, they fling poo at me when I sleep. I wake up to find poo in my bed, which just grosses me out.

The boyfriend finally figured this out when I had him babysit for a night hehehe.:neener:

He came to me the next day and said "What would you think if we got a 2 bedroom appartment, and gave the boys their own room?" :dance3:

Chins will be chins though

Haha brittney! My chin is in my bedroom since I share a house. I haven't had poo flinged at me yet.
