Hi, so I have 2 chinchillas. A white and a black one. During playtime, I walked towards the black one and the white one from behind me bolted right under my foot. I didn't put all my weight, but I know for sure since chinchillas are really small. Its considered a lot of weight.

It quickly ran into the corner and just stayed there. I tried seeing it, but it just kept hiding from me. After couple mins and started to move again. Jumping and running, but its still a bit scared.

Right now I'm really afraid if I broke any bones. What do you guys think. I dont' really see limping, but its mood totally changed. Later on when i put it back in the cage. I feed it something and it was eating, but it wasn't moving that much. I could still jump tho.

Please let me know what i should do. I'm most likely bringing it to the vet. Better be safe than sorry

And, this is the perfect time to remind new (and old) Chinnie owners that WHENEVER you have a chin out for play, you MUST do "The Chinnie Shuffle".

This means keeping your feet on the floor at all times, sliding them rather than lifting them up, which means a Chinnie can't accidentally get stepped on.

It's a terrible thing to have happen and so often turns out so badly.

yep, very important to always do the shuffle! that is the first thing i taught my kiddo when we first got Rhino.

I actually demonstrated the chinchilla shuffle on T.V. when there was a segment on my chinchillas!

I love this! I didnt know we all had a name for it. I am not surprised though with this creative bunch. I hope this chins alright

Thanks, good to know. I was always worried and looking non stop, but I it can see it happen so quickly. It's going to be the shuffle from now on! Totoro, I sure hope your chinchilla is okay.

Haha how funny I do that & didn't even know there was a name for it!

The chin shuffle is very important.
One of my chins got out years ago and my brother was running down the basement stairs and stepped right on him in the dark. Blood was coming out of his ear and he was seizing. It was the worst thing ever and I was sick over it. He was my first chinchilla and my best friend and I still miss him to this day. He was the reason I got into breeding and fell in love with this species.
So I live by the chin shuffle whenever I have a chin out, or a chin accidentally gets out.
I hope your chinnie ends up ok, sounds like it didn't get as much weight as my chin did. I wouldn't hesitate taking her to a vet if you sense anything wrong.
She could just be startled and scared. If anything seems out of whack, her balance or how shes walking, or even if she has a head tilt, stops eating or drinking, call your vet!
