Today my vet's office told me my mom's 12 year old Shih Tzu has stage three kidney disease. I have begun to do research, but am still really really confused. Lots of research left to do. He will be seeing the vet again on Friday. I'm happy for my mom his diagnosis didn't take $1,200 like my dog's did.
To be honest he is a mean little dog, always has been. My mom often helps me medicate my dog when she gets upset, but my dog does not bite to injure, only to warn. My mom's dog bites to draw blood. I don't think I will be able to help her medicate if I value not being bitten or bleeding.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for how to handle having two sick, elderly, dogs. My own dog is 13, and has tumors in most of her organs. She is still going strong though, although she was diagnosed two months ago. I have a feeling this is going to be a very trying time in the following months, or longer. I have no idea how long either dog has left.
