This morning I took Clover out of his cage after baiting him with a couple oats. When I first grabbed him, he squeeked, and I thought I heard something liquid hit the floor. Once I had him in my lap, he was fine letting me pet him for about 10 minutes. After I put him back in, my slipper seemed kind of "sticky," and looked wet on the bottom. The liquid had no smell though, like it does when they pee.

So the question is, did I just get sprayed, and what is the spray? I thought it was just a long distance pee.

The spray would be pee. Are you sure he is a he and not a she? While I know there are some males who spray, most of the time it is females that are the sprayers...I have five and luckily none of them do!

Yes, I am sure that all 3 of mine are males, as I have done the hair ring check. And as for it spraying, it didn't really go all over the place, just kind of hit the floor. I didn't see anything wet, other than the bottom of my slipper. I guess he was just really hydrated tonight, since it is usually a much more noticeable yellow color, and last night it was clear.

one of my males deliberately sprays me. he actually is up his hind legs and scoots forward and trys to shoot me with urine. he usually does it when he knows i am trying to "catch" him to go back into his cage. he has also sprayed me when i was trying to get him out of his cage. so it is possible. i think it is a defense mechanism. and it works, because when he does it, i back away!!

Sounds like a pee spray to me, Kiwis only done it once. My son was giving her a treat and I guess he wasn't fast enough for her, cause she scooted up and sprayed the front of his shirt. The look of shock on his face was priceless. It was REALLY hard to keep a straight face I tell ya.

I've had a male that 'trys' to spray, he even thrusts his waist at me when I'm first trying to get him out of the cage. Females can aim far better than he can, but he still trys.

I have been sprayed by my male when he escaped out of his cage & I cornered him to catch him .. he sprayed me good .. right to my face!

Maybe you 'startled' him awake, and he just had to go!
Doesn't sound like any kind of agressive move to me.
