Hey all,

I am wondering what you guys think of this. Chichi has begun to throw temper tantrums when she is put back into her cage after playtime. She chews the cage bars and gives me the stink eye. LOL. She is really not happy. Once I move the cage back into their bedroom, she calms down a bit, but when I open the cage to give more hay/food/water, she is constantly trying to get out. Before she had the kits, we could let her play and then go into her cage on her own and shut the cage behind her. She never had any problems. Since the kits have arrived, she doesn't seem to want to go back inside. I guess they are having too much fun. We even let her go back inside her cage on her own and she still throws a tantrum.

Do any of your chins do this? Is it something I should be concerned about? This friday the kits will be 8 weeks and I'm gonna seperate Tribble from his mom and sister. Maybe this behavior will change after that.

One of my chins hates it when we open her door but don't let her out to play. She doesn't kack at me, but does the little frustrated growl, and she's bit me a few times. I figured we're just not keeping up with her energy level with the amount of play times we give her.
I'm curious to see what others think.

Right after play as of the last 2 weeks my Chin Whisper sits right at the cage door with her teeth around one rung of the cage door and stares at me in mass disgust after her usual 45 minutes of playtime. After about 5 minutes of her staring at me I pet her out of pity through the bars of her door she don't move till 15 minutes after I pet her by going up to her second (And favorite) shelf where she lays on her side as she always seems to sleep and doesn't give me the stink eye for the rest of the night.

I think that they are like my Edgar and Oscar who've learned that if they throw a temper tantrum than they get attention. They often do it after play time because that's when they get a treat. Most chinchillas don't need more play time but that doesn't mean that they don't want it. After all it's the time they get with you.

She probably just wants a break from her kits! That's how Dre was the whole time she had her baby in the cage. Now that she's in her own cage, she's settled down.
