Ive always used poplar wood for my chins ledges. The stores here have them in the 'specialty woods' section; which basically means less size options and higher price. Are the Pine, Maple, Aspen woods in the same section suitable/safe for making ledges with as well? I no in general those woods are, but im always hesitant to try new woods with chins unless im sure.

yea, maple is bad, forgot. (Thats why i check before buying!) Pine and aspen are safe woods in general tho, i just want to make sure those boards are. I don't see why not. I would assume they are made the same way as the poplar boards in the same section. But i don't like operating on assumptions with my chins.

I just don't like whats left of there poplar selection. Some boards are very dark, others have that green tint through out it. I don't know if that would effect the chins in any way, but i know i don't like it. Thats why i was looking at the other boards.

Id probably try pine in this case just because there litter is already aspen.

i looked at the pine sheets today. I was going to get them for my last few ledges since the poplar selection wasn't good to me. I noticed it said 'selected pine'. And the wood looked pretty rough in comparison to the poplar. You could see the heavy grain and small kots. Looked like it could splinter more easily to. Fourtionitaly they had one last sheet of decent poplar so i got that.

I always use poplar instead of pine because it has a nice smooth grain. By me, they are about the same price. For woodworking/carpentry, poplar is the best option if you are painting.
