Hello everyone! I was referred here by another member, who happens to be the same person I'll be getting my first chinchilla from come mid-February! I am extremely excited. I'm ordering his Ferret Nation cage soon and then I'm going to work on building the shelves and other things myself.
I'm currently a computational biophysics major (or physics major, if you prefer, haha...) in my sort-of-junior year. I'm the only student at my university with this concentration so we're not totally sure when I'll be done. I'll be presenting my first research project next semester, which involves the harderian gland -- an excretory gland that is present in most land animals, including chinchillas!
Over the years, I've owned six different cats, each with lengthy backstories! I currently do not have any, though one lives with my mom back home in CA (a huge black Maine Coon named Pogo, who is currently mourning my best friend, Pinky, who I had raised from birth when I was four; she passed after Christmas at the age of almost 17.5). I live in PA now in an apartment above the transportation agency/travel agency I work for, and I'm very limited to the pets I can have! While I've mostly had cats, I have also had various species of birds, rats, mice, and hamsters. I also had a pair of bunnies when I was very young.
This will be my very first chinchilla and I can't wait!
