My male chinchilla has been quite 'physco' since i seperated him from the female (due to having kits) and he just bolts around the cage and sometimes hurts himself from doing it , he bites all the time now, and he doesn't like people to hold him anymore, and yah, but he's sooooo loud when he bolts around the cage and then you will here him yell out a loud cry because he got hurt. It's sad =/ what should i do =/

I would get him a good quality wheel like the chin spin or flying saucer so he can safely wear off his excess energy. They are expensive, but the cheap wheels are not safe. In the meantime, chin proof a hallway or bathroom and let him out for playtime. (100% supervised) If needed wear gloves or transport him using his dust house to and from his playtime

Can you put them in different rooms? Basically it's like putting a hormonal teenager in an adult video store... His hormones say breed. It's not that he misses the female like people think of him being lonely, yes he probably does miss her, but mostly it's the carrying on the species action going on, get him a stuffy as well, he's frustrated and angry. A wheel and a stuffy would help work that off, moving him further away from the female would help a lot as well.

I agree, putting your male chin in a different room may help. You can also give him some calming herbs, you can read about herbal stress and anxiety relief for chins here.

I got him a wheel and yes he goes on the for a long time and then bolts around the cage still and slams into the wheel. And i still let him out for play time

He doesn't drink much water and it's hard to notice becuase his water bottle leaks, going to get a new one but i have to wait until the end of this month to get my check because i only have enough money to go and buy them there food and other needs.

Is he eating and drinking normally? Any weight loss?

I can't put him in a different room because of other animals that live in the house and i'm staying at a family members house due to a DSS situation and I'm luckey enough that they let me have the chinchillas and one of the deals was they have to stay in my room , i can put him on the oppisite side of the room , is that a little better ?

Nick you also have to understand that your male chinchilla knows his mate had kits. Male chinchillas are very protective of their kits and he worries that while he's separated from them, harm may come to them. I would spend time with him, talk calmly to him and hopefully in time he will feell comfortable that all is well. He can hear his kits when they call out to their mother so he knows they are there--thus making him worry about them, I'm sure.

You can make a stuffie for about 50 cents. Ask at the fabric stores or Walmart for a scrap of fleece, about 8x16 inches. If they have no scraps have them cut 8 inches of a bolt. The solid colors are usually the cheapest. At $3 a yard, 8 inches would be 50 cents.
ETA I forgot to tell you how to make a simple stuffie. Trim off a strip about 1 inch by 8 inches, cut in half. Roll up the remainder like a scroll and tie the ends tightly with the fleece strips.
You need to get a water bottle that doesn't leak right now. When the cage floor gets soggy he will too, then he will get fungus. Sell something on craigs list, pawn something whatever it takes.

Your male chin may also behave like that because he wants to mate. I've noticed it helps when they do not see each other.

Since you can't put them in different rooms, a barrier between cages can help or maybe you can put one cage on top of the other? I do not know how heavy and tall the cages are, but maternity cage is probably small. Another idea is to build a stand, so you can put one cage on top, they can't see each other this way.

I really like lixit glass water bottles, I've had them for quite some time and they do not leak.

OKay thank you, and the water bottle leaks down to the tray he doesn't walk in it

I've had pretty good luck with stacking the cages, male on top.
He can still hear and maybe feel the movements in the other cage, but can't see,
which seems to settle them down - works for me!
