Hi! So I am seriously contemplating buying a Chin. Instead of buying a cage, I want to build it, I read up on the safe woods and the such. But what could I possible use for the rest of the cage? Obviously I want what would be best for my newest addition to my family. Ever since my gliders died I've been hesitant to get a new pet. But I been reading and I am very interested in buying a chinchilla. So can you please help me with some materials for the cage?

If you go into the Supplies For Sale section of the forums, there are alot of cool things for sale there, especially fleece items. Alot of good quality and creative stuff there. I would encourage you to check it out! :) There are alot of postings there, but you'll just have to scan through hem and see what interests you.
I bet your new addition will be happy to see its new home and cage once it's done! :)

Cool, thank you alot! Now what could I use for caging material? Is there something I could by from lowes that would be safe for when the Chin would most likely chew on it?

I wouldn't want to use chain link fencing, right? What would be good to use for bars or something of the sort?

If you read through the Housing & Supplies forum, you will see a lot of threads for homemade cages. Most of them include pictures. I would suggest that you start there for ideas.

And no, you cannot use chain link fencing.

"Hardware Cloth" is quite often used for the metal mesh part of the cage. holes should be no more than 1 inch wide.
