Hello everybody,
I'm a long time lurker on this site. I've found some wonderful information that has answered every question I've ever had about my chinchillas. Until now. One of my possibly pregnant girls has soft poo. She eats PRCS, Oxbow timothy, meadow and orchard grass. She drinks filtered water. She gets a half a bite sized shredded wheat every night. I changed from Oxbow to PRCS in February and her diet hasn't changed at all since then. Before the change, she ate a lot more hay than she does now. Can she get diarrhea from eating too many pellet and not enough hay? Should I change back to Oxbow?
She first got it about 3 months ago and I took away her pellets for a few days and it cleared right up. About two weeks later the same thing happened. She loves the PRCS and pigs out on it and doesn't eat as much hay as she used to. So I cut her down on pellets and made sure she had all the hay she could eat and the soft poo has went away. Recently, I began giving her more pellets because she might be pregnant and the soft poo returned last night. With the possibility of being pregnant, is it still okay to hold back on pellets? I plan to take her to the vet if she's not better in a couple days. Thank you in advance for any advice.
