So I'm adopting a chinchilla soon, then I discovered how wonderful sugar gliders are, and they're illegal in CA :[

That stinks.. I am glad that I live in Florida as I don't think we have anything that is illegal to own (except maybe a alligator).

I used to live in Georgia, I think they're legal there. Ferrets are illegal here too! I want a sugar glider so bad they're so adorable, and as much as I love chins I'm not so sure they'd love hanging out in my pocket all day :D I saw one today at the pet store and I asked the woman what his personality was like and the lady picked him up and squeezed his hind legs and fur went EVERYWHERE he was pissed! I told her to put him back in I didn't want him stressed out. *sigh*

500% agree with Brandon! :D

Out of the three here ..Phoenix is the closest to "attention seeking" ..and he only does "drive by" ...hop on arm, schnuzzle, take off at mach speed again :heart3:

Thats the cost of living in California, beautiful country, seat of culture, tons of people, and no pets! lol! You could always release koalas to combat your fun euciliptis(sp?) tree issue... lol. I used to live in the North Bay area for a bit.

But yes chinchilla = not so cuddly but great interactive pet. Also medium to high mainanence, depends on the chinchilla really. They need a schedule and need play time! So do sugargliders but atleast when they get sleepy they will sleep on you.

I didn't know sugar gliders were illegal here. Yep, it stinks, no ferrets, sugar gliders or hedgehogs. They really need to get their heads on straight around here.

I'm quite aware that chinchillas are not cuddly lap pets ;). I was just saying that I would enjoy a sugar glider as a pet as they are cuddly and chinchillas aren't, hence "I'm not so sure chinchillas would love hanging out in my pocket all day." So don't worry, I know they aren't cuddly and I'm not going to be disappointed when I get mine when it isn't. I was just saying that I thought sugar gliders were cool because of how bonded they get. I do appreciate your concern though.

I have no idea why hedgies and ferrets are illegal here in CA, but I know sugar gliders would compete with our squirrels if introduced into the wild. I think that's a lame reason, who wouldn't want a bunch of sugar gliders roaming around the woods instead of squirrels! (jp...I love the squirrels too!)
