Furby is about...8 months, maybe 9 months old now... And has been having medical issues right and left. Right now, he eats one day, doesn't eat the next, gets between 40 and 60 ccs of Critical Care (I can't make him eat any more than that), some Life Line and Dyne. He is really thin, really really thin, last weight was 390 grams when I took him to the vet (I am getting around to buying a scale his next appointment is Saturday) . He has eaten a good deal since that so hopefully he is heavier! I am working on this problem.

He is still very sweet and very active. However, as of like... 3 days ago whenever he gets out in his pen or just running around the room he starts peeping. He peeps pretty much whenever he runs. And will make this odd almost cackling sound at random times as well. It isn't a "leave me alone" bark or anything like that... It doesn't sound like he's in pain or angry.

Could this be pain and I'm just not recognizing it? Is he going through puberty?

I have a couple boys who make a constant peeping when out and playing around the room.. I was understanding that it was a "looking, searching" noise... We call it "sonar noise" in our house :) But as for the kacking- I hope someone can answer that for you, I don't know if they will just randomly kack, mine have never done it without reason (not wanting to be picked up, etc).

One of my chins is just small.......his current weight is 450 but when he first came to me he was 399. he is about a year and a half.
always weigh at the same time.......especially when hand feeding. you would be surprised the difference a ful belly makes!

definitely get a scale with the wee little one like that. i try & weigh klinger once per week. i also give him and extra "treat" here and there, maybe a pinch extra of rosehips or oats and/or a 1/2 of shredded wheat when the others dont get it. also if he has a wheel in his cage you should take it out until he gains weight. i didnt realize how much they use the wheel and probably burn off what they ate.

as for the peeping, i usually hear that during playtime if i had one of the other chins out before them. it seems they are "looking" for thier friend.

as for the other sound, have you checked the sound database.....maybe it is normal?

Idgie does a very quiet peep, peep, peep when she is playing (and sometimes in her cage). It appears that she is chatting and looking for my attention. As soon as I sit on the floor with her to play, she stops peeping. If I mimic her peeping, she will come to me. (If I call her, she won't come.) I would say that your chin is looking for a playmate.

It isn't so much of a KACK sounds that he makes when he is mad. Kind of a HE He he... high pitched but goes from high to low. Like a creepy laugh! ha, I am buying him a scale and taking him to the vet tomorrow.

I have mastered this sound that Hercules makes that I can't even begin putting into words but peep might be close lol. Anyway every time I do it he always comes and finds me and says it back. He is a very independent little creature and does not even like scritches though he will groom me forever. That and this noise lets me know that we are bonded. So I was thinking maybe your lil guy is just looking for you to come play with him. There is this other sound he makes in the middle of the night kinda like a bark but not. Maybe Kack would describe it. I think that means WAKE UP!!! COME PLAY WITH ME!!!! Every time I check on him when he does this he greats me at the cage door and this would be the only time he greets me at the door. He seems very excited to see me. After I give him a lil attention he is content to bounce around his cage for hours playing alone. I don't know if my boy is making the same sounds as your boy for sure but it sounds like he might be and I don't think there is anything to worry about.

My Hercules does the same thing. It is like he is chatting all the time and I too have learned how to do it back so he responds to me. In fact, if we are close enough to one another he will come over and groom me if I peep at him. I notice my boys peep more than girls...maybe it is a mating call thing since it is followed by grooming ? Idk!

Oh God I hope he is not interested in mating with me lol!!!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!!!!

Are any of these peeping sounds coupled with tail swishing?

In the presence of females, I have seen some males make a repeated "ee ee ee ee ee" sound that seems sort of urgent, coupled with a distinct swishing back and forth of the tail, along the ground. The first time I saw it, a young male had been let out for playtime and had encountered a young female for the first time. I thought something was wrong, but nothing bad happened. I read somewhere that this is mating behavior, but never had this verified by any source that I was sure of.

Could this be that? Or maybe that is a different peeping...

So many peeping sounds, so little time..
