Not the best picture, and they weren't released yet but put into a holding pen while their actual pen was finalized...

Anyone guess what these are??? More pictures to come tomorrow or Sat, when I can get a half decent picture.

Yep, they are a pair of India Blue Pieds. I can't wait until the male matures and gets his tail in!

WOW! You are so lucky! I always love seeing all your new animals. Then again, I always knew that you'd end up with a zoo. :p

I can't wait for the "better" pictures. :D That's so awesome...peacocks are so pretty. Silly question - are you going to raise them? If so, you will have to post pictures of babies when the time comes...

peacocks are so pretty but soooo noisy. My neighbor had several peacocks that kept escaping their pen and would end up on our roof, lol. Congrats!

We are thinking Jade and Apollo for names. We'll let this pair breed, most likely let them try to raise their own young. If she hatches and raises them--great, if not thats fine too. I'm personally hoping for them to produce an all white chick . I have a 25% chance!

She shouldn't breed yet next year, but possibly by year 3 she'll breed.

I agree, pea fowl are noisy. But it's all a matter of opinion. I have guinea pigs and some people consider guinea pigs noisy. I love to hear their songs and grunts and purrs. Enjoy your new birds.

they were definitely considered noisy by all neighbors, lol. Especially when we were trying to sleep! But that doesn't make me like them any less. I'd love to have some running around my property! We do have a mini farm down the road where peacocks have acres to run, so we get to go visit them and enjoy them as much as we want. Almost as good as having our own.

My husband's family had peacocks and guinea fowl at the same time, and the guineas would jump on the peacocks' tails and ride them around! Then again, he also hated the peahens because they would poop on him all the time!

Pretty birds! :)

Yaaay peafowl!! I had an uncle who kept several of them in a doorless van surrounded by a big, roofed chainlink "cage".

The sounds they made when we went to the breeder was just amazing. They lived in a valley, and the calls just echoed. Great watch dogs! As soon as they noticed us coming up the driveway they sounded.

Ah well, perhaps it will give the "city folk" moving into the country and complaining about the country a taste of what its really like to live IN the country.

These guys most likely won't get run of the property as they are yearlings, so will most likely fly off if released. They have a 24 x 24 foot pen 6ft-13ft high so they can fly, and an attached 8'x8'x6' building for shelter, that is on the outside of the pen and won't take up flight space. Hopefully by the end of the summer they'll have an additional 24 x 24' flight pen attached :)

I love peacocks, we had five males at the Baltimore Zoo (including an all white one) and every August when they dropped their tail feathers, I'd go around and collect them. I miss working there.

my mother use to breed and raise peacocks and they were so beautiful when they were full feathered and strutting around there pens!!!
i loved them so much due to there beauty and we got to where we didnt even hear them anymore lmao when my friends would come over they would be like what is that?????
and my response was always what are you talking about lol

HMMM well if you're going with Apollo why not do Apollo and Laurel--after all that's where my name came from. Apollo chased a nymph and scared her, she committed suicide by asking Zeus to turn her into a tree--the Laurel. That's why Apollo wears the crown of laurel leaves on his head--he felt so bad for being a lecher! LOL! Laurie comes from "the laurel tree"

See, I like the name Jade for the female. It for whatever reason is fitting. I just can't settle on a name for the male.

They've been making some neat sounds already-- not the actual "call" they are known for, but more of an air-horn type call, and then coo to each other. They won't venture out of their house though into the open pen, hopefully once they settle they'll come out.
