Doing reptile rescue, I have quite a few scale'y kids here.. snakes, lizards, tort, etc. ..and I love my rescue "kids" as much as I love any of my "kids" ..but there's a difference when you get to choose an animal, too. I dunno.. the love isn't different ..but something is.....

Anyhoo.. here are my latest additions to the family..

Two weeks ago, Nagas Thet arrived..

IM002133.jpg

Nagas Thet is an Indian and Burmese integrade. (His sire was 1/2 Indian and 1/2 Burmese, and his dam was 100% Burmese)

He's a little sweety, too! He comes right out to greet me whenever he sees me near his enclosure ..he's not head shy.. he's not nervous or flighty ..and these are excellent qualities for a baby boy that can get in the 10 - 15 feet range, as an adult.

Before I even saw Nagas and decided to bring him into my collection, I was on a list for this little chica ..just from looking at pics of her Mommy...

I watched her Mom lay the big fluffy eggs.. I marked the calendar every week while they incubated.. I watched the breeder cut the eggs and peek inside (this takes skill, but it is perfectly safe.. and sometimes, necessary) ..and I watched her slither out on her own ..and take her first meals..

Now she is here with me...

Still in her packing deli.. "You not gonna eat me, iz you?"

IM002166.jpg

"Okay... you don't eats me.. I'm gonna cruise around a bit.. "

The sweetest baby Burm face ..EVER!

Her name is Izellah Kahala Mooka ..Mooka for short! She's one month, today ..and just barely 20" long. When she's a big girl, she'll be in the range of 15 - 20 feet and well over 100 lbs.

Enjoy!

Wow, they're very pretty! So do you have to have huge enclosures for them then when they get that large?

I'd love to see pictures of your reptile room. It must be massive.

Congrats on the new additions. :)

Sweet!! It's great to see someone else with a chin and reptile fascination!! I would like to see pics of the reptile room, too!!!

"The Room" is the 2nd bedroom ..which also gets used as my studio, of sorts ..but there's, at least, one reptile enclosure in almost EVERY room of my house. (We live in a small 2bdrm duplex, btw.) LOL

I'll take some new pics in a day or so.. and get them up. You'll get to see enclosures, at least ;)

..and thanks, everyone! :)

I thoroughly enjoy my slitherin' "kids" ..and think that it's really important to educate as many as I can about their nature and what not, so I do classroom presentations, etc. ..and take my more docile animals out into the public ..for errands and stuff ...whenever I can. Even Nagas Thet has been a few places ..and met a few "non-snakey" types ..with very positive results!

starleomach.. some breeders cut into the eggs just a few days before the "due date" ..for two reasons. One, they are impatient and want to see what's in them.. which I don't wholeheartedly agree with. And two, some babies don't develop an "egg tooth" ..and they will inevitably drown in their own egg, if they are not assisted with a cut. The latter, I do agree with. (We are interfering with their natural selection and so on, when we bring them into captivity and begin breeding them in our homes, etc. If we are going to interfere that much, we are responsible for their lives ..and we need to do everything to see that all viable life survives... to the extent that it is in our control, at least.)

Thanks! :)

Typically, they are kept in "coffin" style enclosures with front opening doors. I am already working out the plans for such enclosures, but I would really like for mine to be "furniture quality", as well as, durable enough to withstand a 100+ lb. "kid" that may have different ideas about going home ..or coming out of their home. LOL

I'm still deciding if they should be 6' x 3' x 18" ...or 8' x 4' x 18" ..but I have some time, fortunately. ;)

Wow Aminah! What cool slitherin' kids! They are beauties!

I couldn't imagine having a cage that big! You will definitely have to post more pictures as they grow. :)

Beautiful snakes!
I've always wanted one but hubby just about craps himself seeing a cartoon one on TV, let alone a real live one!

Thanks again, everyone! :)

As people say, "there's something for everyone.. " ..and snakes ...reptiles, in general.. happen to be one of my "somethings" ;) I've been fascinated with them since I was a wee little girl ..and everyone in my family has not always been so enthusiastic.. haha! My husband is no exception, but he's tolerant. "If it makes you so happy.. just don't expect me to deal with them.... " ..this is what he tells me most days.

At least, he likes the Chin'kids
