My chin Ralphy does this, a lot more than Furby. He seems to be quite healthy. I took him in for a check up when I got money (Furby drained my bank account haha) And he looks fine, even though there was some question when I heard him grind his teeth for a day, which he has not done since.

Anyway. He sleeps on his side from time to time. It freaks me out every time he does it. I think it's probably normal but I may as well check.

Oh, chinchillas.

It's normal. If you use the search button, you'll find many, many threads on the same subject.

Mine all do that from time to time. I have one who sleeps with his hind feet in the air. I think they have to feel especially secure to do that, as instinct would have them sleep hunched over, to protect them in case of predator attack.

They are usually totally sound asleep, so even if I call them by name, they don't wake up. That of course gives me a heart attack, so I end up opening the cage door and touching them to make sure they are alive. Then they jump up two feet startled, and I jump up two feet b/c they scared me. They go back to sleep and I wait for my heart to slow down to normal.

Typical chinnie fun!

Mine does it too, I love it!

Anna I just wanted to say that ever since I saw the "I love my FurBlobs" thing on your posts I have been thinking of my chin as my FurBlob! So cute!

Shell sleeps on her side most of the time. I will be talking to her and she will just roll onto her side and go to sleep. I think there are nicer ways to tell her mommy to go away. Ah chins.
