So I have my first chinchilla. And I was wondering, are they usually skittish and afraid of new people? Mine absolutely loves everyone, including all other animals, he’s ALWAYS happy, and is scared of absolutely nothing. He climbs over everyone weather he knows them or not, even as soon as I got him home from the pet store. Is this usual, or am I just lucky?

You are lucky! Sometimes they are fine at first and then as they get acclimated to their new environment, their cage that is, they want to stay safe in it without being bothered for a while. Hopefully your chinnie will stay really social, with people that is. I would not let a chinchilla interact with other animals. Some species can carry harmful bacteria that can be deadly for a chinchilla. Congratulations!

I had the same luck with my little man. I got him from a petstore when he was a tiny little baby...he looked at me...hopped over to me.. I picked him up and he nibbled on my nose. It was love at first sight! lol . We've been best buddies ever since!

Shelly was like that when she came home too. I fell in love with her when she fell asleep in my arms at the pet store. I took her home that night. Funny thing is she has not fallen asleep in my arms since. She would much rather run around, popcorn and wall surf. She is my little princess and she knows it.

My Lenora is like that too. When I picked her up in the pet store because I liked her markings she snuggled into my arms and I fell in love.

She has never been afraid of me and is very social and affectionate.

I have had her now for a month and we remain best budds. I am thrilled to be so lucky.

Enjoy.
