My boys are in a QC Mansion. It has tons of side to side and front to back shelves, fleece bedding, and is on the stand. I keep them in my room on weekends and in the formal living room on weekdays when the parents aren't here so I can actually sleep for class. ;)

I'm about to move into an apartment with my boyfriend since he got orders from the Army saying he can move off base. The boys are going to have to be in the room with us because my boyfriend said that they are our kids and need to be in the bedroom  We will need our sleep.

He doesn't understand how noisy they are at night, because when he comes over at night, they are just little angels and don't make a peep. He will rethink wanting them in there after a few days :neener:

Is there any way to really silence the cage? I know you can't prevent them from wall surfing and chasing each other and playing at night, but the whole thing just rattles with any little movement and it's loud

If you look at some of the other pictures of cages, you'll see some with large washers screwed into the shelves. Their purpose is twofold; they hold the shelves in place and provide a little more structual rigidity to the cage - hence, less rattles.
If you have wooden shelves, you can add 3/4 in. drywall screws and washers tightly, but the more shelves, the more rigid the cage becomes - add a couple if necessary!
The more you have, the less rattles you get.
Keep it at least 1 in. from the walls and furniture - they'll chew on anything they can reach!

Maybe what Brittney's talking about is the bottom of the cage. We just got 2 boys in a QC Mansion and the bottom is what seems to make all the noise in our house. I can't really hear them when they are bolting around on the shelves etc, but they hit the floor and it...vibrates? Good question Brittney :)

Well I have tons of shelves and they are bolted on very tight and double washers.

I have 2 front to backs on each side on the bottom

1 huge side to side shelf in the middle, and another front to back near the top and a side to side.

Each go the whole way side to side front to back. It's not the shelves that are vibrating, it's the cage itself and the bottom.

When they walk on the shelves, I guess it's the little cylinder clamps connecting everything that rattle and when they hit the bottom it always startles me and wakes me up.

They wall surf too which just sounds like someone constantly smacking metal.

It's so loud and annoying, but they never make a peep when he is staying over. He just doesn't believe me that it's loud.

For the bottom the only solution I could find to prevent the tray from slamming into the bottom of the cage itself is to take a pear clip and bend it so it connects the pan to the cage.. My boys also figured out how to push out the pan, I don't know how, but they did and they got out, so it prevents that too.

If you get a pair of pliers, ask your boyfriend to tighten up those clamps - all the way! Maybe install more clamps, too!
For the pans, their's a roofing product called "water + ice shield" you can buy by the foot. It's about 3/16th in. thick rubber with a peel and stick adhesive - cut with a scissors, push hard to apply. Home improvement stores, roofing supply, or someone doing a roof in the neighborhood might have it!

Brittany, I'll come up some time and help you work on the cage to quiet it down. I know how awful it can be to try to sleep with all that racket going on. I've had lots of experience with outfitting these cages to make them vibrate less... ;)
