I was bored today and decided to figure out our "show stats" for the past four years...figured it'd be neat to see if anyone else knew what theirs was as well. Here's what I'm talking about:

RAF Chins has now shown for the past four years...we've shown a total of 24 animals which was roughly 25% of our offspring over said years. With those animals we achieved a 5.9point average which is a first place average (almost a res.phase champ. average). We have never had more than I think six breeding males in at any given time and (I'm fairly certain) no more than 30 breeding females at a time.

We're pretty pleased with that I suppose...we haven't ever taken lower than a second place competing against some very competitive herds...SOOOO...how about all of you? I think this proves that even the small guys have a good chance if they put their minds to it! I hear way too often by "small hobby breeders" that they don't show because they can't compete with the larger herds...

To me, that would mean more if you divided it out by show.

Nationals is judged much, much tougher. State shows would be next with field day/smaller shows judged easier, overall. I'd be interested in knowing how I did, by type of show, but it would be wayyyyyyyy to much work!

That average is very nice, BTW!

We've been showing our offspring for four years as well. With on average, less than 15 animals in breeding and producing a total of 41 weaned babies in those 4 years, we've shown 20 of them (almost 50%). Half of those shown were standards.

All of them were shown at MCBA natl's and only 4 were reshown at Ryersons Field Day.
So, keeping this in mind, up against the big kahuna's, our average for 4 years is 4.125 - I'm purty darn happy with that.

We are improving year to year, which is the important thing to monitor in your herds, and this last year at natl's our average was 5.25, with our one girl *almost* getting Reserve Female of Show (It was so close I almost had a heart attack).

I keep ridiculous records, so I can pull up almost any statistics - it's so much fun for my orderly mindset!

 I can do that too (doing these stats is so much fun!)
Our average for MCBA natl's, 20 animals, 4.0 even.

Becky- you're right, it DOES mean more by show...those totals are all from the Atlantic Chapter Show which (IMO) is a pretty competitive show. It DID have nearly 200 animals the past three years I think. Would love to make it to nationals some year :) I should take a look see what our "colors" were for said years...I know a majority are standards and blacks but it'd be neat to know specifically.

And Sycamore, that's not bad at all :) I hear nationals is the be all end all LOL!

Oh, and you're right that it's important to monitor your own show stats from year to year. I know for us, the first year we had the best average...however, shortly thereafter we suffered a die off and had to rebuild...since then we've been working our way up again.
