Should we get a second chin?

Hi everyone

I'm seeking advice. We've had little Pablo since February and he's the friendliest pet ever. An absolute delight.

He's normally very happy, but my partner, who is usually in during the day, is an actor and sometimes goes away for long periods of time on tour. When he does, Pablo is alone during the daytime. I've noticed that he sometimes gets a bit sad at those times, even when I'm back in the evening or at weekends.

We've been wondering if we ought to get him a little friend, but we know the difficulties of introducing new chins and we are very apprehensive for that reason.

We just don't know what would be best for Pablo in the long-run.

Any thoughts?

I am thinking about the same thing. I read that if you can't spend much time with them then you should get another one. We spend quite a bit of time with ours but I don't think its enough, because when we go to bed she is awake and alone.

How old is yours, mine is 8 months. I am thinking its easier to do while they are still young. I also worry about introducing her to a new one, but you figure it will take at least 3 months before you can ( the slower the better I think).

Thanks for your reply, lilanniesmommy. We don't know Pablo's birth date, but we suspect he's coming up to 1 year now, which is why we're thinking we need to act now if we're going to do it.

I think Pablo is fine at night. He seems to quite enjoy rambling around on his own, and he gets plenty of attention in the evenings. It's just when my partner is away - I don't know if it's just him specifically missing him, or if it's about nobody being there during the day (even though he's usually asleep).

i have thought about it too but i am so scarred that if i get a second chin what could happen to one or the other if they dont get along mine is happy i spend a lot of time with him and his cage is right next to the couch where i sit and he gets out of cage time every night for 30 to 45 min he popcorns wall surfs he is a funny little chin :)

Not every chin wants a cage mate. Just be aware that if you get a 2nd chin they may not learn to get along and you will need a 2nd cage permanently. How do you know your chin is sad? Most of the time people want to put human emotions on their pets when they are not actually feeling them.

Thanks for all the replies.

I think we are both leaning towards not getting a second one. Just in case. I would hate to be in a position where I felt I wasn't doing the best thing for either chin.

It was only one time that he really seemed down. He got listless and wasn't interested in anything. I had to sit for hours just chatting to him and he eventually perked up.
