My chinchilla does just fine by himself, he spends a lot of time with me outside of the cage. However, I'm starting college soon & I'm afraid that I won't have as much time for him as I do now. Will buying another chinchilla provide him with enough company?
Another problem is, if I were to get another chinchilla, I would need to spend more money on food, bedding, toys, etc which would be difficult, for I will be working less due to school.
Should I get another chin or should I not?

I would not at this point. You already stated that getting the extras for a second chin would be tough - what would happen if you had a couple emergency vet bills pop up? Also, there is no guarantee that your chin would get along with a new chin, and that might mean an entirely new cage as well.

Spend time with him when you can, make sure he has stuff to do (wood chews, toys, maybe a wheel), and he'll be fine.

I agree with Tunes. College is a very demanding time and as you already stated, it might be tough to afford extras. Most chins are fine solo as long as you spend time with them :) In fact, some chins prefer to be alone...which as Tunes also stated, could mean buying another cage! I'd say just leave things as they are and then once you settle into the college routine, if you find that you have enough money saved and enough time, consider adding another chin at that point.
