So I brought home two new chinchillas around two weeks ago, both males both 3 months old. Their personalities could NOT be any different. One is extremely tame, loves to come jump on me for scritches, and he popcorns and chirps his little heart out during playtime.

His cage mate is a different story, although bonded well together with his fellow chin he seems to hate me. He isn't at all afraid of me, he doesn't recoil when my hand is in the cage and he has jumped on my hand once or twice. He will sometimes bite me when I'm offering him a treat though, and I mean HARD. Today he drew blood which is worrying. His fur also appears to be thinning a small spot on his head. There are no other signs of discomfort, eats a lot, is very active, poops and wees are normal so I'm hoping this is nothing that a little care and patience with him won't fix but I was wondering if he should be biting me this hard especially when I'm offering him a little treat?

Help me!

Is it possible you scared him? Maybe just taking a bit longer to get used to his new surroundings.

If you do playtime, I suggest having separate playtimes with just you for each of them and then maybe together, so each are bonding with you without the other.

Maybe spend some time just sitting by the cage so he is used to you being there. Like when you reading, or even when you are on the computer.
