Last night, I went to check the chins around 8:00 pm to make sure they were fine and had food and water. The first cage I went to, I noticed that my sweetie Missy was frantically pawing at her mouth. I took her out and her chin, chest and feet were soaking wet. My heart went through the floor! I immediately took her to an area with better lighting. I checked her over for any other symptoms. No watery eyes, no sores on her face, no nasal discharge, breathing sounded absolutely quiet. I looked in her mouth but couldn't really see anything except maybe some slightly swollen gums on one side. So just to see if she could chew, I tried offering her a Cheerio (did not stop to remember that she doesn't like them). Of course she threw that down. Well, then I handed her a small, very dry and hard, raisin. She chomped on that thing like crazy. So she can chew. I then check her weight records and discovered that she has not lost any weight and is maintaining a nice steady weight. At that point, I took a deep breath to calm myself. I decided that she might have something stuck in her teeth so I gave her an hour by herself to try and get it out. One hour later she was totally dry! She was also dray at 11:00 pm and this morning when I got up. No more pawing at her mouth and eating everything in sight. I will be keeping a close eye on her for any signs of problems with her teeth and mouth, but I think she got it out, whatever it was. It would break my heart if any of my babies developed malo. Hopefully, this will be the end of this story.

Eek! Hopefully it was a one time thing and she doesn't make a habit of it. Seems like you looked for all the right signs though, so you'll be on top of it if it ever develops into something.

Aww, I hope she's okay. I have had a malo chin and I have one that I have to worry about developing it because his mother died from it not too long after he was weaned... My poor Ari has gotten the short end of the stick in every way possible so far. Hopefully she just had something bothering her that is gone.

She is doing great and I am ecstatic! I have yet to have a malo chin (and I hope I never will). Thanks to all the wonderful people on this forum and the fantastic information I have read on this site, I knew what to check. I also know to keep an eye on things for a while. If it happens again, she will go straight to the vet to be thoroughly checked.
