I can only afford to purchase either a fleece set from Ali, or ONE 2.5 inch bass pan from Bass Equipment.

I read on the Ferret Nation Club thread that the extra deep pans are really only necessary given that one uses shavings, which I do...But I am very close to blowing off the extra deep pan and going with the fleece set.

Can someone please tell me if getting the fleece set would be wiser than purchasing just the one pan? Or does anyone recommend using both? Help!
:hair:

If you're going to get the fleece set, see if Alli can make the liner a "pillow case" version so that you can put the pan inside the liner. That way your chin will not have access to the plastic pan so he can't chew it.

Have you tried fleece around your chin? You may find that they end up chewing through the fleece. Not all chins are content to leave it alone. If it was me, I would buy the pan (since you use shavings anyway) and then save up for whatever else you need.

I agree with Peggy. Start with the pan and then work your way to the liners. Not all chins are willing to be litter trained. If you really want fleece start with a tube or hammock.

IMO, you would need at least 2 fleece sets to begin with. One to swap out with while the other one is in the wash. Also, the fleece can get pretty worn and or not clean looking even after many washes. So you would need to purchase another set say in about 6 months or so. You can also try making a set of your own so as to not be so expensive.

I use fleece and no bedding for over a year and a half now. I think the fleece looks nice and it takes some getting used to as far as the routine of cleaning the cage more often as it can start to smell after day 3 or 4 depending on how many chins you have in 1 cage.

I think If you could only afford one or the other, I'd also say to get the pan as well and either wait on the fleece or try making a set of your own. :))

Forgive me for being a negative Nancy here but if you can't afford to buy bass pans and a fleece set how will you be able to afford taking your chin to the vet for an emergency should one occur? A bass pan and a fleece set from Alli is what, 100 bucks? From my experience a wellness check and fecal float was already more than that and it was JUST a wellness check.

Just because I have a budget in terms of housing and accessories for my chin's cage doesn't mean you should jump to conclusions and assume I have absolutely no other funds in regards to his health. I have no issues paying the veterinary bills.

I definitely have separate funds for housing and vet care. Just because one is low, doesn't mean the other is.

ETA: NVM too late ;)

I'm pretty sure nowhere in my post was I accusing you of anything, I was merely asking a question hoping the answer would be the one you just gave.

By stating, "if you can't afford to buy bass pans and a fleece set how will you be able to afford taking your chin to the vet for an emergency should one occur?" you were pretty much making the assumption that if I don't have enough money to pay for BOTH the bass pans and fleece sets than I obviously don't have the funds to pay for veterinary assistance. But if you say so, then okay, thank you for your concern.
