Scratching?

is it normal for your chin to scratch himself? he doesnt do it too often.. but if i touch his fur, he tends to either bite at it slightly or scratch it. im assuming this is normal but i just want to be sure! thanks!

Yep, sounds normal. My chin (and cat) groom the spot where I pet them afterwards a lot of the time, as in they were offended that I messed up their fur. I'm like jeez, sorry for trying to be affectionate. Haha.

Chins also scratch themselves with their back legs like dogs and lick/bite their fur like cats (ok, lots of animals do those things I just think people notice it more in those animals so it's a good metaphor) to groom.

The trick is to make sure they aren't doing it too much. I don't know what quantifies as too much, though. My chins scratches herself multiple times a day. I guess you would look for red, dry skin and excessive itching like every few moments all day.

Yes, I see my chin scratch her sides and behind her ears multiple times daily too. Just know what is normal for him and once you figure that out, you will know if there is a problem if anything is abnormal.

I did read your other posts after I replied, so yes, I totally understand. And it never hurts to ask anyways. Questions are good!!

How often are you giving dust baths? And what kind of dust are you using? Sometimes if they are getting bathed too much it can dry out their skin and cause them to scratch, especially around the ears.
