hi! so i rescued a standard grey chin about a month ago, he is awsome, names dusty. he was very neglected and most likeley abused, the owners wife gave him to me because she knew i would love him and give him what he needs. he is missing some fur but over all he is great, after many hours of working with him. i actually fell in love with chinchillas since this. so i decided to buy a kit for him to be friends with. he is a white mosiac, 3 months old. i named him kush. he currently resides about 4 inches away from dustys cage in his own until they know each other. so this is my story! nice to meet you!

Hi and welcome. :)

For future reference, any time you bring a new chin into your home, it is generally recommended that you observe a 30 day quarantine to be sure he has no illnesses, especially if he came from a questionable environment. It's to protect both your resident chin and the incoming chin.

We look forward to seeing pictures.

I had the abused chin for 30 days before I got the new one! The abused one is healthy as can be and the 3 months old came from a breeder! He is in top health! Thanks for the advice though!

What Tunes meant is that you keep the new chin in quarantine for 30 days, preferably in a completely different building.

And a warning... just because someone is a breeder doesn't mean that they are as all knowing as they often should be. :)) Just be careful!

Her point was you quarantine the NEW chin you bring into your home for 30 days, away from your existing chin. Just because a chin comes from a breeder, does not mean it is healthy. Unfortunately not all breeders out there are reputable. He may seem healthy, but an underlying illness could crop up in a few weeks. Chins also hide their illnesses well because they are prey animals.

Since they are already in the same room, quarantine can not be done, but it is good to know for the future.

Read up on introduction techniques, take it slow, and keep in mind that they may not ever get along and you will have to keep them in separate cages. It would also be a good idea to double check their sexes so you do not end up with unexpected babies.

Hi and welcome! Glad to hear you share a passion for chins! They are such wonderful members in the household! I hope your two little guys get along well and intros go smoothly. Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice, unfortunatly I made that mistake. I know now. The boys are getting along better allready, teeth chattering and barking has slowed! My older chin throws the occasional fit, but it's not as bad as yesterday. I did double check the sexes. 2 boys! I'll get pics up tonight.

 Look forward to seeing the photos of your new furry pals. :)

Day 5, my 3 month old jumped in my hand while I was feedin him!
