Safe woods for a chinchilla?

So I'm building my own cage and bought oak wood for shelves...is this ok?

Some places I read it was fine but then other places I read it was toxic so what do you think?

Use kiln dried pine. It's cheap and safe.

I heard that but I already bought the oak and got it cut and everything...twice actually because I got the dimensions wrong the first time

agreed. you can find some nice kiln dried pine boards in the 'moulding' section of your local big box hardware type store. i go to Home Depot for mine. the 4 or 6 foot boards are nicest, because they aren't too big to carry home if i'm walking, and not too cumbersome on the bus.
