Yesterday I received several well-meaning gifts for Mips (Only 4 days to go until he comes home!) from my family, among which were the "Atomic Nutball" from WARE and some Sunseed "Fruit-flavored Chew Twigs".

Here are the product pages:

Atomic Nutball:

Sunseed Chew Twigs:

I understand that nuts are not good for chins--but if I remove the nut from the inside of the "nutball", would that make the product safe for Mips? They're not terribly specific when it comes to the type of "Natural Hardwood" used, and similarly, the chew twigs are only marked as "Made from natural fruitwood"... has anyone had any experience with these products?

Neither one of those are terrible and it's good over all very good that you are providing wood. The nut needs to come out from the inside of the one toy. I am just skeptical of the sunseed chew twigs because it doesn't tell you what type of wood it is. Maybe you could extend a call to the manufacturer to ask about it or perhaps another member here will know.

Most wood chews in pet stores have what they call "non toxic glue". I have over the years given items to my chins here and there with this and never had an issue. I try to stay away from it though. All in all, Mips will be happy to have some chews ! Good luck

A ton of members here sell some really cool home made chin safe toys as well which are inexpensive :) Check out the "chin supplies for sale" thread !

Thank you for the response--I've taken the nut out of the nutball and he's enjoying rolling and gnawing on the wooden atomic structure itself--we may have the next Nobel chemistry award winner in the house!

I've a lava perch, some lava bites, a wooden hut and a variety of apple and willow sticks from the local petsmart right now, so hopefully that'll tide him over until my bank account recovers somewhat from getting his initial supplies--then I plan to spoil him with lots of lovely toys and chews made by forum members!
