i know NWI Chinchillas has a list of safe pet store products at http://www.nwichinchillas.com/safepetstoreproducts.htm
i bring it with me when i run out to Petco or Petsmart. Most of the SuperPet PetKabob items are on the safe list, but i spotted this one tonight that isn't:

Is it new, maybe? It says it's part of the Pet Kabob line, but like all the others, it doesn't say what kind of wood it is. Has anyone used this one, or does anyone happen to know if all the Pet Kabob items are made of the same woods?

I'd love to give it to Jonesy; it's a really nice size for her, a little smaller than the other Kabobs and without any metal on it. But of course, I don't want to chance giving her some bad wood.

the only advice i can give is you can call them up. I have done that more than once and asked what is a particular item made up with..

summer

It all appears to be dyed pine or a hard wood, but you won't know for sure unless you call them. The trouble with petstore toys is you don't know what their standards are for wood preparation. It's almost impossible to know that they've gotten the best quality wood, and have cleaned it properly. You also don't know how fresh it is. My favorite example is comparing the packaged applewood to something fresh from one of our forum members.

I ordered some of those from online, and my chinchillas definitely don't like them as much as the hanging toys made of assorted and fresh wood. I was informed that they were made of pine when I asked.

thanks, guys! i ordered a sampler box from Ronda--we'll see what Jonesy's wood of choice is.
as for toys, she's stocked on those for the moment, both from vendors on here and the stores. her favorites are her Super Pet kabob and loofah-filled apple, even though she has better stuff from online. (that's why i thought she might like the one in the pic.)
i figure i can refill her kabob with better-quality stuff once she chews it up a little more.
