I am looking into building my chin a new house. I saw a really cool picture of one that somebody made using a large bird cage. like for a parrot or something. I was wondering what wood/s would be safe to make ledges and perches from? and any tips? Thanks so much. :)

KD Pine (kiln dried) is the cheapest way to go. Poplar is safe also but very hard, and that makes it harder to drill, etc.

Home Depot and Lowes both sell KD Pine. You can even buy pre-cut shelves meant for kitchens that are already the right width, and then you can get them to cut the length for you, and just attach some hangar bolts and wing nuts.

I am sure there are tons of instructional threads on here if you do a quick search.
