Hi everyone,

The new chin I picked up, Rosie, has a few tough patches of fur on her body. I feel she might just need some good grooming, but any ideas?

Note: It is not her skin that is rough, but the fur itself.

Thanks for the feedback.

She probably just has some small spots of matted fur. If you give her baths daily they should work themselves out. Keep your eye on her skin to make sure your not drying it out.

Okay, will do. Maybe the store wasn't giving her dust baths enough.

Thanks! :D

A picture definitely would help.

If there are fur matts that you can feel, you can gently pull at them from the root and they'll come out. This is normal and dusting does help, but sometimes it's easier just to pull the matts out. Fur chewing looks more like a child took scissors to the chin and you can see the darker underfur showing through.

Update: I haven't been able to grab a picture, but it is definitely from poor grooming. She is poorly groomed overall and her rump is covered in a ton of clumped matted hair; problem is, that the matted hair is hard clumps.

I'm going to assume this will take a while to fix. Besides dust baths- what can be done? I bought a small pet grooming brush, but I am afraid to try and remove the matted clumps as I don't want to hurt her.

Any ideas?

If she is matted as bad as you say dusting won't remove them. Chins slip fur and it does not hurt them. Just grab the mat and pull quickly. She will release the hair and it will grow back in time.
