I have a lovely tan white female that likes to back and side surf - she flips onto her back or side on the floor of the cage and pulls or pushes herself around using the feeder, waterer and walls or other objects. I've had many over the years flip over shelves, but never one that drug itself across the floor.

She is pretty gross. Besides her back and sides being crusty and yellow, passing under the waterer leaves her belly wet too. Moving the waterer to the top of the cage has helped but she still likes to stretch up to it and make a mess.

I've done everything from fill the cage with pine 2 x 4 chunks to rock, granite and tile pieces. Even stuffed it (almost) clear full of a flake of hay once. She's strong enough to move and stack everything and start again.

She's nice and blue and I'd love to show her when she gets older, but I've never been able to get her cleaned up. I've got her trained to use a pan in the back for peeing - and the turd has recently figured out how to side surf inside the little cake pan.

I'm starting to think a pet home may be her only option, not sure if she would hurt babies dragging herself around like she does. I included a couple of pics, you can see the pee on her sides and her tail is bright yellow because she rolls up onto it all the time.

Any ideas? Anyone else have chins that display this type of behavior? If so, how did they react to kits?

I have a pink white female that does that and she is disgusting ! I can't give her awapy because no one wants her because of how disgusting she is !!!!! She is 100 times worst than your girl. Your lucky LOL

Me? No, All of my runs are solid. I do have some collapsable ones for emergencies but they're rusty.

Do you think having wire on the bottom would help? I could custom build a wire bottomed platform to try.

A wire-bottom might help with the staining if you really wanted to show her, but I doubt it would curb her behavior. Other than the stain, she doesn't look that bad to me. I've got one that looks like a used dishrag, but she's an older breeder long past show prime, so I just let her roll. =)

She didn't come out as bad in the pics as I thought she would. It's just that she feels so gross to the touch. There was a good sale so I picked up a new collapsable wire rabbit cage tonight, will see if she cleans up.

I'm not sure I want to do a fleece liner in a run. It would require me washing it... w.o.r.k. :p

I have one (a white) that does the same thing except she does it on the top of her house. There is a space between her house and the shelf above it (about 2 inches). She is a good sized girl and it looks like she shouldn't fit but she gets in there anyway and just drags herself around on her back. Luckily, none of the chins in that cage use the house as a toilet.

I have a white that insists on laying/sleeping in her pee. I wanted to show her but gave that up. No matter how I change her cage around she pees then lays in it - yuk
