My little hamster died today. I walked her to the vet, but she passed away before the doctor arrived. The doctor didn't do a necropsy, but she did do a postmortem, and she said that she thinks Florence's intestines got twisted, causing bloat throughout her gastrointestinal tract. Her swollen abdomen pushed up on her diaphragm and lungs so she had trouble breathing, and she was nauseous so she was drooling. "Otherwise, she was in perfect health and would have lived to be an old little hamster" I dunno if that makes me feel better :\
Attached some photos. That's all, really, just putting it out there. Y'all helped me feel better when I lost Orson and Ivan, so I figured it would help with Florence, too.

Awww, Florence was adorable! I'm so sorry you lost her. I had a hamster die a year ago and they really are quite personable and loveable little creatures. May she r.i.p.

I'm so sorry. If her intestines were twisted and she got bloat that bad I don't think there was anything you could have done. I think surgery would be very difficult and risky. I know you've had a wave of losses recently and I wish I could make you feel better!!

Florence was such a sweet hamster....
I'm so sorry for your loss :(
Rest in peace sweet baby.

Thank you everyone. I've just cleaned out her cage and everything...waiting until I'm a bit less sad to sell it on CL. Ugh.

so sorry to hear you lost your sweet little hamster, RIP sweet baby

If you ever need help dealing the loss of a pet, I highly recommend this website - http://www.petloss.com/ they have some nice poems, a forum, etc. it helped me a lot when I lost my beloved cat Soleil

Hello, Im very sorry for your loss. I just lost a 6 week old baby chinchilla due to intestinal problems from birth. I was told the same thing postmortem about surgery to fix his intestines but I think both our babies would have passed on either way. It really is a risky thing on such little guys. Just think about how happy they are now; where theyre no longer in pain and can play to their hearts delight. We'll see them again one day.

Aww sorry to hear of your loss. My son lost his little hamster before we got kiwi and he was heart broken. Best wishes, hope you're feeling better soon.
