Hi,

My chinchilla seems to be a very picky eater and has the habit of discarding most of his hay (over 50%) onto the floor outside of his hay jar overnight. Should I be putting this hay back into the jar, or should I discard it if he doesn't want to eat it for whatever reason?

I'm using Oxbow Western Timothy hay, which I've read is a good hay, so I don't think quality is the problem.

Thanks!

I've found once they pull it all out and you try to stick it back in the holder, they still won't eat it. Some chins are extremely picky with hay. Oxbow is a mixture of 1st and 2nd cut. My chins won't eat it- mainly because they won't eat anything 1st cut. I would try a different brand or a different type of grass hay- my chins love Oxbow orchard grass. Now I feed them a mixture of Kleenmama's 2nd cut, 3rd cut, and bluegrass hay and have very little waste. They love it.
