I picked up a used FN 141 off CL and when my boyfriend and I were bringing it inside, one of the wheels broke...Can I get a set of wheels at Lowes or Home Depot? Which ones do I need?
I have had 3 wheels break since I bought my FN142 (from trying to roll it around on tall carpet and moving it across asphault) and I bought new wheels from a hardware store, but stronger ones.
yeah, the wheels that come with them are no good.I don't think that any of the wheels on mine are original. In fact, since I've gone to the three stacked cages we have started building our own support platform/box and putting really heavy duty wheels on those. So far that seems to work great,I guess the added weight of the third cage on top is just too much for the regular wheels.
The home depot one lookes like the right one. I don't have the box anymore so I don't know the specs, but the metal stem should be the same size as the old one. If you bring the old one with you you can easily tell which one you need.
The black tube thing needs to be seperated from the metal stem and put back in the cage. Try using a flat head screwdriver. Then the new one should fit. Not sure what the sharp prongs are, do they come off?
I ended up just taking all of the wheels off and putting it on the ground. It's much more stable this way anyway. I could not get the black tube off, my Dad and I both tried (with hands, not a screwdriver though, I'll try it). The prong piece pretty much replaces the black tube, but it doesn't fit on a metal cage. I guess it's made to dig into wood.
You could try to call Midwest (manufacturer) and ask if they can send you some replacement wheels and the plastic sleeves for them. Their info is:
