Hi so I'm trying to re introduce these guys, who I got together and were together from day one. When I had brought them into my house I suppose they went under some stress due to new owner and surroundings. The one guy was biting the other ones tail and I had thought it was ringworm so I treated them for it, and I had separated them. When they were better about a month I had put them in the cage and it was like they were best buds, they totally missed each other. Unfortunately one of them had gotten a cut on his eye so I had to separate him and it's been a while. I had put them cage by cage for a week before re introducing them I had also re introduced them in the bathroom, and they were getting along so great. I had put them back in the cage together and they seem to have some bickering. I was worried but I had put a dust bath in there to see if they would fight over it, and they didn't they in fact took a bath together. But after a little while it seemed like the one was afraid of the other one and when the smaller one went down to get some food the bigger one started to chase him. Is it that I should completely separate them? or is this just them trying to re insert dominance?

Firstly you should only permanently separate Chinchillas if blood has been drawn. As long as that's not the case then you can still bond them together. I had my first Chinny (Jed) for just under a year before we got BoB, and he was underweight due to his previous owner not knowing how to look after Chinchillas. I put their cages side by side to start with as stated, then every now and again I'd switch so they got a smell of each others scent. I would also let them play out together and get a treat, for example, a banana flake and break it in half and put both parts on my hand for them and they would take one each. Almost as though they were being rewarded for getting along, I've had them living together awhile now and they adore each other :) I hope this is of some help. Good luck!
