So I got the chin spin and my marathon runner of a chin is having a great time keeping us up... I was just wondering what methods other ppl used to quiet it down a bit... I mean it's not as bad as his old rickety wheel but it's almost close. So I have a QC Mansion...will it be quieter on the back wall of the cage as opposed to the sides?

Any help and suggestions will be great.
Thanks!

I have yet to figure out how to quiet down a QC. :( I had one given to me with a chinchilla surrender. I have put a Chin Spin, an Ed Wheel, and a Flying Saucer in there to see which was the quietest. By far the Flying Saucer was, but even then it still rattled the cage. I think the cage is just ultra rattly.

If it's the wheel itself making noise I would recommend getting new bearings for it. They are really easy to switch out, and they are really reasonable.

Like Crysta said, it is usually the cage making the noise, not the wheel itself. If you just got the wheel, I doubt it's the bearings. However I did have a new wheel's bearings go out in about 6 months.

You could try getting a shelf that runs the length of the cage on the side that the wheel is on. Sometimes bolting a shelf to the sides and opposite ends of the cage give it a bit more support.

If any of that made sense....

I agree with Stackie - using many bolts will stop most of the rattling!
Tighten to the max!

ok...thanks. I will give that a try.... I was planning on getting a few new shelves anyways...

Putting the wheel on the back wall also helps. Mine is pretty quiet. I have it on the back wall with a full length shelf right above it.

i think im gonna give that a try tonight.. do alittle rearranging after cleaning their cages...

Last night tho.. i dont know if it was me, but it seemed like the wheel was sounding worse...like it sounded like it was hitting something....but I checked and gave it a spin myself and it seemed ok...

I dunno....Ill update on how it sounds tonight after moving it...

My other chin whos more nervous hasnt even touched his wheel and its been a week or so... I hope I didnt buy it for nothing... :banghead: Its been quite a loooong time since he's had one and the old one he had was one of those metal spoke type ones... so maybe hes not used to it... I just hoped this would help get him some extra exercise.....

almost went broke buying them...hope he uses them...lol :cry3:
