So now that I am looking for a chin for me I was hoping to get some input.
Little Man is in a Ferret Nation cage & I would like to put him in one section and a baby in the other.
Before my rats died Little Man was in the bottom half and my girls were in the top. Little Man had absolutely no interest in them.
So would a male or female be better and what have all you experienced with the different sexes?
I am not a breeder so I am not breeding, just pets
Any & all input would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't want babies, then I would suggest getting the same sex as it is easier.

If you got a girl, then they could never spend any time together, and they would not be able to share playtime or cage space. And if one is out running around, you'd have to watch to make sure they don't breed through the bars of the cage.

So, same sex is always easier.

Ditto what Allison said. If you want another chin, and no babies, you need to get a same sex friend. Accidents happen, and those little buggers are masters at escaping their cages, especially to get to the opposite sex. You can avoid any unwanted kits by just going with a same sex chin.

Kelley, I agree with the same sex chin just for the playtime reason, perhaps they will get along and have playtime, and maybe get along to allow them to share a cage.

But I do have Leonard in the bottom of a 3 level ferret nation and Bronwyn is atop him. they are both perfectly fine with that setup.

Just wondering *sigh - again with the wondering... :)
I've read that male/male are hard to join if they are not from the same litter? is this all true?

I personally have not experienced any difference between one or the other, although it also depends on the age of the animals and if females are around. But either way, slow introduction is often more recommended than not wether it be male or female.

I'm sure others on the forum will bring in their experiences.

Many people in here have 2 or more males sharing a cage. It just depends on the personalities of the chins. Some get along with others and some don't. Females will fight with each other and male/female pairs will fight. all you can do is to try and take yur time with it.
