Sorry again for the questions, but what is a good thing to put hay in so that it doesn't get all over the place?? I don't want to put it on the shelf I usually put it on anymore! Haha

hay ends up everywhere no matter what you put it in or on, lol. chins like to make a mess of their hay, and are rather selective on what pieces they will actually eat.

i use a metal coop cup and thick walled glass kitchen canisters (small size) for my boys. Rhino is a 'hay-messer' while Guss is relatively neat about his hay (i'm sure that will change once he's out of quarantine and in the same room as mr 'bad influence' Rhino, lol!!).

other members here use terra cotta pots, fleece hay bags, tin cans, and wooden hay mangers from what i have seen in photos.

cool, thanks so much for the ideas! I just got done switching his shelves to wood and putting tiles on the floor of his cage, haha...it was all wire! no good! haha i really want to get another chinchilla too, i couldnt imagine growing up without siblings! Are tin cans really good for them to chew on? Thanks again! :)

most chins wouldn't care for chewing on metal. having said that, i have seen photos of bites taken out of a metal wheel! i think if a tin can was used as a hay container, they'd be more interested in the hay instead of the tin.
