I have searched high and low for the answer before posting...this is a huge site ) So here I come to ask.

Today I was talking to my friend who helps sews for our family....so many very special clothing needs....and she told me that fleece is man made from plastic and she does not use it for her animals due to now being able to process it. She said it would be best to make the liners out of something else. Now, is this in deed a fact? Is there a cause for concern here? Is there another type of fleece and I missed it?

She will help me make anything...I just need to make sure it is the right thing.

Thanks in advance for your help again.

Yes, polar fleece is man made from plastics. But it is the best fabric choice as it doesn't have long threads the can cause a problem if they become ingested or wrap around a hand or foot.

I think the reason fleece is used is due to the thickness without strings.. Cotton cloth with batting might be ok, but I think again, probably regarded as not as soft as fleece.. Anything terry cloth (like towels) have those strings that are easy for them to pull and eat/get caught on toes and such. From my experience, my chins tried to nibble the fleece and then left it alone after one test nibble. Some others on here have little fleece eaters and do not use it for that reason. I would ask your friend to make something small like a stuffie buddy or maybe a pillow for your chins to see how they do with it and go from there :) If they eat it, obviously you will need to look into other options.

Batting is not safe for chins, it's a series of lots of filament that will cause problems if swallowed.
